Discovering Incredible WOW - World of WearableArt Award 2022

Hope all is well and we continue to enjoy lovely days wherever we are.

I have been wanting to share my experience of watching WOW - World of WearableArt Award here in Wellington, New Zealand. It's certainly one of the unique experience I have while living in Aotearoa. Before that, I have encountered the information of WOW since I first landed in Christchurch, New Zealand. Apparently, this event is world-wide famous and undoubtedly, too good to miss

After some pause due to COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most - sought and favorite events the this coolest little capital is back. And it's back with a big bang! 

WOW has been famous for its one-of-a-kind, edgy and memorable show. Clever combination of out-of-this-world fashion designs, non-stop live music, stunning stage and theatric laser show certainly made WOW get its reputation as one of the world-class performance. I have to say it's a perfect combination between Cirque du soleil, live music and non-stop parade of creativity! Too bad we cannot take any photos or videos during the show, we can only do that just a little before and after!

We have bought the ticket since the beginning of the year and we got quite a bargain for the award night. We came to the venue, the TSB Arena, quite early. There was a line up to get the ticket checked and enter the show. It was in September and I have to say the weather was quite chilly as we are in the middle of winter. Yet, that doesn't stop me and Stella, my dear colleague from the Embassy, to come and dress specially for the ocassion! I was wearing my cape-kebaya adorned with embroideries in blue, red, and white, from my favorite boutique, Batik Chic.

Long story short, after arrivingin TSB Arena and lining up for the entrance, we managed to be inside the hall and stroll around before entering the venue. We grabbed the program book, got some souvenirs, brought drinks and munchies, then headed inside the venue. It was impressive! And our seat is not too far away. Only a couple of rows behind the VVIPs tables. We even saw PM Jacinda Ardern and her husband that night. We happened to buy the ticket for the award show. 

What makes it special is that show, we will have the announcement of all the winners.
Estere, Sharn Te Pou and the creative teman behind this show made the night even more special with their original songs, compositions and dances. And surprise, surprise... PM Jacinda was taking the walk on the stage wearing one of the original designs from Aotearoa New Zealand. Cool!

Moreover, in 2019, the WOW show before COVID - 19 pandemic, the winner for is from Indonesia, Rinaldy Yunardi. He managed to win the Supreme WOW Award, for his design, Lady Warrior, showing his extraordinanry expertise in transforming fragile, organic materials, into such an amazing and beautiful design.

This year, Monica Ivena from Indonesia also joined the competition but she didn't win.

All in all, I really had so much fun watching this show. I pretty much vowed to go back again next year for the next one. Dame Suzie Moncrieff, the creator of WOW, certainly has established an amazing platform that showcase amazing melange of fashion, art, music, cutting-edge technology, and more.

So, what do you think of WOW 2022? 

For sure I will wait for WOW 2023 and make sure I won't miss it!

WW: Outfit of the Day - Election Day

How I love posting about my Outfit of the Day, although I haven't done many apparently.
Well this time, as I feel like the Election Day is super special, let me put more details on what I wore that day.

Pemilu memang Pesta demokrasi yang seru ya, teman-teman!

Hanya sekali dalam lima tahun, rasanya rugi besar kalau sampai terlewatkan.

Dan supaya tambah seru, aku pastikan OOTD yang aku kenakan juga sama serunya.

Kali ini, my hubby and I decided to wear white.

Well, not necessarily all whitey but the nuance is white, for purity and peace. 

For sure, my Mini- me and I were having tons of fun heading to the designated booth or TPS 05 near our house, wearing one of my favorite outfits 😇.

Well, my hubby was simply wearing NYC t-shirt and short in baby blue from Levis plus his favorite cap he got from Ebay.

WW: Welcome to Old Batavia

Here comes some snaps from our weekend stroll around Old Batavia.

Old Batavia or Old Jakarta is a beautiful spot in our capital city where many old buildings from the colonial times are still well maintained. 
Have you been here before?
To those who have visited Jakarta, they might think that Kota Tua or old Jakarta looks like a completely different part of the city. The European vibes is in the air and you can still be enjoy those unique architectures here. Recently, there has been some intensive rehabilitation measures taken by the previous Governorship in order to revive this historical spot. Apparently, those program went well as we see how wonderful this are now! Super proud indeed!

It also has so many beautiful museums surrounding it, including the Museum of Jakarta History, Wayang Museum, Museum Bahari and more.

We went to Museum Sejarah Jakarta, Museum of Jakarta History, which is located in Fatahillah Square.
We had a tour guide explaining the history of Jakarta as well as the items being displayed in the museum in English, so that Bo et Obi could fully understand the story.
They surely know more about the city we live in now and interesting (and dark) history of Indonesia's struggles in the beginning.
I will share more detailed stories about the Museum on the next post, okay.

The tour took around 1.5 hours and after that we had a little picnic in the designated area within the complex of the Museum.
That's decent time to see the collections in 2 floors of the museum, the Staadhuis building built in 1701 - 1710.
I have to say the last renovation done by the Provincial Government of Jakarta has transformed this museum into a much, much better place.
So, you should not miss it!

We also took the liberty to take some pictures here and there, including my outfit of the day. Yup indeed, my OOTD :).
I rarely do it but it was actually fun to have one particular part in my blog showcasing my curated costumes.

I love wearing Batik outer as it's very casual yet it's batik, our wonderful traditional fabrics. I love wearing them wherever I go and recently, we have so many interesting designs which are much more colourful and trendy.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2019 is back!

Jakarta Fashion Week 2019

I know it's a late post but it feels like a big loss if I don't write it in my blog!

Walaupun Jakarta Fashion Week teal selesai beberapa waktu yang lalu, tapi rasanya kok rugi banget kalau aku tidak tulis keseruan acara keren ini di blog.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2019 was held in Senayan City, 20 - 26 October 2018.

As I was traveling around during the same period of time, I managed to watch 4 shows only.

And I can say I'm enjoying it. For the last 4 years, I was privileged enough to see and even be part of some shows in New York Fashion Week, including the one with Indonesian Diversity.

Novita Yunus, Lulu Lutfi Labibi, Bin House, Humbang Shibory x Purana are the shows that I  watched during Jakarta Fashion Week 2019 and they did have amazing shows!

I have to admit that I was sneaking during my lunch break to catch the shows but hey, Jakarta Fashion Week is super special and I didn't want to miss it obviously.

Being the biggest fashion week in Indonesia, Jakarta Fashion Week has been consistently  conducted since 2008. What I love about this event is that it has been successfully showcasing brilliant works of Indonesian designers, which, I have to say, matches their fellows at the international arena in terms of creativity, intricate details, and styles. The latest trends and colors, beautifully par with Indonesian amazing traditional fabric and endless creative energy, prove to be the best recipe to create such outstanding works in fashion!

Sebagai penikmat fashion yang juga penggila wastra Indonesia, saya benar-benar bahagia bisa menikmati Jakarta Fashion Week kali ini. Beberapa dari designer keren itu memang teman dan saya kenal naik, but regardless of that, karya-karya meraka memang luar biasa dan patut mendapat pujian, baik dari khalayak dalam negeri maupun luar negeri.

Let's see some of those amazing shows I have watched.

NOVITA YUNUS - NY PURE / RESORT

This year, my dearest Novita Yunus presents such a lovely and laid-back collection dominated by white, grey, silver, black and off-white shades with creative cuttings and flairs.  This time, Novita Yunus and Lulu Lutfi Labibi shared the runway under Pesona Sisterhood Runway.

I love the outers and the jackets which gives you a great look with ‘fun’, the spirit that I always capture from mba Novi’s warm personalities. 

Mba Novita is more than just a great designer! She is like my big sister as we’re quite close as I’m a big fan of her works, especially the bags. Batik Chic collection has been a great part of my wardrobe. She even visited me in New York City while I was just recuperating from my mastectomy. Keep up the great work, Mba!

LULU LUTFI LABIBI – TEPIAN

Mas Lutfi's work is, as always, captivating! 
I have been a big fan since I saw his incredible and unique cutting, using Lurik, the traditional fabric ubiquitously used in Jogjakarta. The mix and match, bright colors and asymmetrical look has been his strong signature. On his hand, Lurik is not just a striped piece  of cloth. And I love him for that!

Belum lagi kreatifitas mas Lulu yang selalu penuh kejutan.
Bahkan shownya kali ini pun penuh misteri, dengan backsound music yang nggak kalah misterius if not mistis!

BIN - BINHOUSE

Obin, or Josephine Werratie Komara, has long been acknowledged for her incredible works and dedication for Batik, particularly the vintage ones. She is one of our heroines when it comes to the preservation of traditional Batik patterns and production method.

Kain-kain tante Obin, as I called her, memang cantik dan khas, karena motif dan warna yang dipakai kebanyakan adalah motif khas Indonesia yang tidak biasa. Itu yang membuat karyanya banka disukai karena memang ekslusif dan tidak pasaran. Selain itu, teknik membatik paripurna yang dipertahankan ditambah kualitas hasil pekerjaan yang selalu terjaga membuat nama Obi lewat BinHouse melanglang buana dan makin membuat harum nama Indonesia di kancah panggung fashion dunia.

Koleksi BINHouse yang ditampilkan kali ini juga sangat exquisite, apalagi para model yang melenggak - lenggok di runway melakukannya dengan santai walaupun mereka menggunakan kebaya, kain dan sepatu sneakers! Asli keren shownya!

                     HUMBANG SHIBORI X PURANA

This lovely collection of Shibori was specially made in Humbang Hasundutan Regency in North Sumatra. Established under the CSR projects of PT. Asuransi Sinar Mas, a leading insurance agency in Indonesia, Rumah Kreatif Sinar Mas and the regency government in Humbang created series of Humbang Shibori clothes and fabric, involving artisans from the local area and trained by Merdi Sihombing, an Indonesian designer.

Using tie-dye techniques, Humbang Shibori fabrics are transformed into various lovely collections which will be perfect for your leisure time.
